This fitting meets FMVSS 571.106 / DOT requirements for brake circuits. Both ends are 3/8in NPT male and tapered, so each joint draws tighter as it is torqued and seals on the thread itself.

The brass body lives with the condensate, compressor oil carryover and winter road chemicals that a heavy-duty air system pushes through it, and it will not corrode itself into the valve or manifold at either end. At 0.1 lbs it is a pocket-sized part with an outsized job. The hex centre gives a wrench proper purchase so the nipple can be torqued on its own, and it carries forward the older Automann 177.9043 reference for shops working from earlier lists.
